Today I am
here to share about World Cancer Day, is celebrated every year on February 4th.
It is also known by the name world cancer awareness day. It is a day of whole
world to boost awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection
and treatment. World cancer day is led by UICC to support the goals of the
world cancer declaration written in 2008. Now let's get to know about this
world cancer day the little history behind this world cancer day and how do we
celebrate to increase awareness.
World Cancer Day 2021
Introduction
It is
hard to find a person in society today who has not been touched by cancer in
some way either directly or indirectly. World cancer day hopes to honor those
that are fighting and people who are lost to the present dreadful disease. This
unique day of remembrance and determination aims to assist people understand
more about cancer and encourage them to require action in order that hopefully
at some point there'll be many in society who are not touched by this cancer.
While there are various types of cancers the disease most commonly arises when
cell mutations lead to growths called tumors unless treated cancerous growths
can start to spread and infect other parts of the body. There's no denying that
cancer is an extremely serious and widespread health issue worldwide.
Today
is a great reason to recognize the international cancer community and the
critical work that they do particularly in this time of Covid from cancer
organizations to government cities businesses school and the general public everyone
is getting involved. It's
looking like an amazing day there's so much activity
already happened and it's planned for the rest of the day. We've seen New Zealand
and Australia start us off and we're moving now over to the Americas. I know
there's plenty more events planned in every part of the world including Singapore,
Japan, Slovenia, Turkey, the US and more with Covid I know it's not been the
same but it's also exciting to see everything live and virtual.
It is
the second leading cause of death after cardiovascular diseases and it
particularly impacts socio-economically disadvantaged communities and
countries. Over a third of cancers can be prevented and further third are
curable as long as they are spotted in good time and treated effectively. The
primary goal of world cancer day is to significantly reduce illness and death
caused by cancer and it's a chance to rally the international community to
finish the injustice of preventable suffering from cancer. This day targets
misinformation raises awareness and reduce stigma multiple initiatives are run
on world cancer day to show support for those affected by cancer.
History
Now
moving on to the little history behind this world cancer day. World Cancer day
was established on 4th February 2000 at the planet cancer summit against cancer
for the new millennium which was held in Paris. The charter of Paris against
cancer which was created to promote research prevent cancer importation
services. It also included an article establishing the anniversary of the
documents official signing as world cancer day which was signed at the summit
by then general director of UNESCO Koichiro Matsuura and then French president
Jacques Chirag in Paris on 4th February 2000.
Significance
Now
moving on to the celebration of this world cancer day. World cancer day is
celebrated all over the globe including by the united nations and various
countries governments. Many cities also honors the occasion by lighting up
famous landmarks and sites in bowl cancer day colors like orange and blue.
World cancer day runs its own campaign each year, encouraging people to get
involved. You can honour the world cancer day by educating yourself and those
around you. One of the keys aims of world cancer day is to help address the
anxiety and stigma around the disease speaking with others about cancer and our
personal experiences with. It can help reduce feelings of fear and distress and
create a sense of unity and togetherness. Government and non-governmental
organizations are organizing various camps lecturers and seminars at every
level throughout the world for the prevention of cancer. Several policies
control measures are implemented and other people join the campaign in masses.
The main target of the event is to spread a message to the common people about
cancer UICC (The Union for International Cancer Control) provides a toolkit
which consists of templates leaflets and direction of various organizations for
better assistance. World cancer day even is celebrated every year with a
particular theme to make it more result oriented and to reduce death ratio per
year.

So, I

Small steps for the effectiveness against Cancer and the awareness
We
are learning about ourselves. We're improving our communities. We're increasing
our social fabric and happiness. And so, if we solve cancer, we solve pretty
much everything in the terms of our vulnerabilities. It's a great time to be
alive in the fights against cancer.
As we
try to get back to some normality your active contribution will show the world
that the issue of cancer is still a critical issue in the global health and
development agenda.
A
critical issue about every national government and yes, we have had our minds
diverted on Covid for nearly 12 months but we also need to focus on the cancer
challenge that exists. Today all of your actions count your stories, your
inspirational activities and events that you can arrange on the day able. It
may not be outside or in groups but everything you can do on social media will
make a difference everything counts on February the 4th. Now I know most of you
will not be able to arrange a physical event but don't worry there's still a
lot that you can do online on social media zoom meetings team meetings. There's
lots you can find on the UICC website and wellcancerday.org. So, go there and
see what resources are available and pick out those great ideas that others are
actually implementing around the world. I am sure that you can do something
which can make a difference on world cancer day. Go to the website
worldcancerday.org and be inspired and while you're there. If you are going to
do an activity make sure, that's logged onto the map of events. So, start
sharing your ideas sharing your commitments on the website so we can see what
you'll be doing. Even though we have the Covid challenge we must not forget.
