Ganesh Chaturthi celebration: This festival has its own upbeat, with all the energetic stuff like; huge pandals, idols, loud music and thousands of devotees together on streets chanting “Ganpati Bappa Morya”. Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the grandest and greatest festivals celebrated per annum in India. The festival marks the birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha, who is prayed to and remembered before beginning any new endeavour consistent with Hindu mythology. Ganesh Chaturthi date and time
The festival falls within the Shukla Paksha of the Bhadrapada month which, as per the Gregorian calendar, lies within the months of August and September. Therefore, relying on when the Shukla Paksha falls, the date of Ganesh Chaturthi changes once a year. This year, the festival has come on August 22 (Saturday). Consistent with Drik Panchang, the auspicious time for Ganesh puja is between 11:06 am and 01:42 pm tomorrow.
Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi
Hindu mythology says that how Lord Ganesha came into existence. Actually, the Goddess Parvati had made an idol with clay and later breathed life into it. However, this is often not it. At some point when Ganesh was asked to guard a cave while Goddess Parvati took bath, Lord Shiva (Parvati’s husband) arrived. Since he was instructed to not let anyone inside, Ganesh didn't let Shiva during which resulted in making Shiva angry. Things became such Shiva ended up beheading Ganesha. After this, Lord Shiva resuscitated Ganesha with the highest of an elephant and promised that he would become the foremost loved god and would be worshipped above and before all gods.

We always celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi. Though we can’t go to attend any community celebration this year, we will have puja at home. We will be praying to an idol I made using flour dough. We will miss the puja pandals near our home this year. We used to visit Ganesh puja pandals near our house and will miss that, as this year, that won’t be possible. We will have a quiet celebration at home Devotion and prayers are the needs of the hour. We will have a puja at home. This is the beauty of this festival that we can have our own puja. History
Goddess Parvati made Ganesha out of
sandalwood paste and put him on one's guard while she was taking a shower. When
Lord Shiva came back, Ganesha wouldn't allow him to enter. Enraged Lord Shiva
severed the child’s head. On finding out by this accident, Goddess Parvati was
heartbroken, after which Shiva promised that he would bring Ganesha back to
life. This is how Lord Ganesha came into being after he was re-born with the
highest of an elephant.
Traditions
With the chanting of mantras by a priest by the ten-day Ganesh Chaturthi or Ganeshotsav kicks off with Pranapratishhtha. During this offering like Modak, shrikhand, payasam, coconut rice and Motichoor laddoo are placed before the idol, this is often followed by a 16-step ritual called Shodashopachara Puja.
Devotees get Lord Ganesha idols home and
also throng to the temples to provide prayers. People prepare a spread of
sweets for blog/prasad. Localities and residential complexes also put up
pandals during which Lord Ganesha statues are put up. The festival is gone to
the last ritual called Uttarpuja, after which the idol is immersed in water.
Restrictions in Mumbai this year in the sense
of beware of COVID
- The height of Ganesha idols at manuals cannot exceed four feet
- At most two feet of Ganesha idols at homes
- Masks are mandatory and social distance possesses to be maintained
